It's almost the day, one week from today to be exact that we celebrate our LOVES....Are you getting ready? I've always loved Valentine's Day and the shape of the heart. I used to collect all kinds of heart shapes in my décor but now I really only bring it out during this February holiday. I've been cruising the internet for fresh ideas and one of the trends I see are all the metallic colors silver, gold and rose gold being paired up with reds and pinks, it looks fabulous. Isn't that rose colored LOVE balloon to die for? You can find it HERE at Papersource . Papersource has a great selection of paper crafts you can make for your lovey doveys or with your kiddos. My kids are older now so we don't make handmade valentines anymore for their classmates like we did when they were littles. One of my favorites we did was the felt fortune cookies idea I got from Martha Stewart. We wrote on the strips of papers why we were fortunate to have each other in our family.....everyone had to write something special and put it in the felt fortune cookie and then put it into.....
a Chinese take out box, one for each family member. Then we opened the boxes and pulled out the fortune cookies, opened them at dinner and read what each family member had to say about them. Like...,"I love how you always tell me I love you" or "I love that you make the coffee every morning for us". They thought it was corny but I liked it, it's a nice way to say "I love you" and show appreciation. I think we should do it again this year, we should make it an annual Valentine tradition. Maybe change it up to these pretty paper printables instead of the felt ones.
You can find the above pretty floral paper fortune cookie template HERE and directions on how to create the paper cookie. You can put them in a Chinese take out box too and add a label on the box saying, "I'm fortunate to have you in my life, be your lover or friend,". Change it up for your special valentine. See the image below. If you want to make it edible just buy some cookies and dip them in white chocolate and add a heart sprinkle.
My eldest daughter has a boyfriend so she usually bakes him something like a heart-shaped brownie and makes a handmade card. I also enjoy getting the Cottage on Cullen all gussied up and then on Valentine's Day I cook a special dinner for the family. I've been getting my craft game on too and making some heart garlands for our home. Target had some cute stuff in the dollar bins so I picked up a few things; the pink circle doilies, white heart doilies and canvas stickers. They had a lot more stuff so check them out.
The gold cupcake liners and arrow toothpicks were in a World Market baking kit a few years ago, wish they had them again this year I thought they were cute. I've used the gold cupcake liners in a banner to decorate my sideboard. Here are some inspirational Valentine ideas for you that have also inspired me to be creative after the creative lull of the month of January. I was all gung ho in December getting ready for Christmas and I'm glad now I'm feeling my creative mojo again.
I've had this idea in my computer forever. Red hot candies stitched between two paper hearts. Cute idea! You could add a cute label to the front saying, "I think your a hottie".

I've seen a lot of crochet heart garlands on Etsy. I really need to learn how to crochet. My grandmother used to crochet and I remember her trying to teach me...I was a bit hyper back then {who am I kidding I'm still hyper} to sit still for very long. I sure wish I paid attention back then.
These little coffee sleeves are adorable for a coworker or friend, go here for the download. Lot of the teachers at our school will buy each other coffee as a special treat, wouldn't this make a personal touch for them.
Now if you'd like to wrap up a gift for your sweetheart these are really adorable, Lia Griffith free printable tags might take that valentine gift up a notch.
This sweet little garland is from Terrain, use it to tie around the gift or use it in your décor. How easy would it be to punch some hearts from scrapbook paper and run a stitch across them with your sewing machine. Simple. What about something delish. Crème de Pots, Chocolate covered strawberries or some chocolate cupcakes with a special message.

I always have the ABC cookies {Schoolhouse cookies} from Trader Joes in my substitute basket for the students I sub for. Here they decorated them with some frosting and sprinkles. Talk about easy.
If your valentine is on a diet....well that's just crazy talk but If...

This succulent wreath would be perfect for them. You can find a heart shaped wreath wire at a craft store, buy some moss and plant away. Succulents are expensive though when you start adding them, at my local Armstrong Nursery they cost about $80 bucks.
Whatever you decide to do or whoever you spend The Day of Love with I hope it fills your heart with happiness and LOVE.
