Well this post is over a month late since we started school on August 9th! Well I'm back in K-2 where I was supposed to be in 2018! I guess "better late then never" as they say. Yes, I've moved down to Kindergarten this year. I've been keeping up with y teacher life over on my Teacher Instagram at the heart of a kindergarten teacher.
Yes, I am that old, I'm not one of those other gals who are ashamed to tell you their age (Sally O'Malley I began teaching in 1993, if you count Fall of September in 1992, the year Hurricane Iniki hit the island of Kaua'i when I took over for my mentor teacher as I was student-teaching in 6th grade. I have enjoyed every minute teaching 4th grade, loved teaching about California history. Kindergarten is a big jump down but I am super excited!
I will call them my Munchkins! Each table is marked with one of the main characters in the Wizard of Oz. Over each table is a hot air balloon with a stuffed character inside. The blue balloon has Dorothy and Toto, the yellow one has the Scarecrow, the green has the Tinman and the orange has the Lion.
All of the pencil boxes also have a character with their name on it with some mini anchor charts on the nameplate. We had a birthday the very first day and I always give them a crown, a "It's my birthday" sticker and a rainbow lollipop!
Also on the first week we do a lot of Pete the Cat activities so I gave them a little Converse sneaker keychain with a some rockin' POP rock candy. We had a great first day and I love my marvelous Munchkins!
