**************************** FLAG CAKE RECIPE *************************

ingredients; 18 TBSP (2 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temp, 3 cups of flour, 3 cups of sugar,

6 large eggs, 1 1/4 cups sour cream (this is the secret ingredient),1 1/2 tsp of pure vanilla, 1 tsp of lemon zest, (finely grated) 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 cup of cornstarch, 1 tsp of salt, 1 half pint of blueberries, 3 half pints of raspberries.

Cream cheese Frosting; 1 1/2 pounds of cream cheese, room temp, 1 pound of confectioner sugar, 1 1/2 tsp vanilla. The frosting I cut in half because I don't pipe the extra stars on my cake like the above pictures.


1.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees, butter and flour a 18x12x1 inch pan

2.) Place butter and sugar in bowl of an electric mixer, beat on high until light and fluffy. Reduce to medium speed, add eggs 2 at a time. incorporating each addition before proceeding. Add secret ingredient (sour cream) , vanilla and lemon zest, beat until mixed.

3.) Sift flour, cornstarch,salt and baking soda. Reduce speed to low, slowly add flour mixture to butter mixture, beat until just combined. Pour into pan, smooth to level. Bake until tester comes out clean about 25-35 minutes. Transfer to wire rack to cool. Unmold and decorate.

4.) Frosting; Place butter and cream cheese in bowl mixer, Beat on medium until fluffy. Reduce speed and add sugar and vanilla.

5.) Spread frosting over cool cake. Now this is the part I skip but you can do it if you feel so artistic and domestic. Put rest of frosting in pastry bagwith large star tip.

6.) Place blueberries in left top corner like picture above. Place raspberries in rows across cake, alternate pipe stars and raspberries for white and red flag stripes.....The tartness of the fruit and cream cheese is soooo yummy!! it is the best..I promise.
