Last month as I was browsing my local Armstrong's Nursery. Low and behold on this cute wagon...was black buckets and out of the black buckets was the most interesting paper-like plant. I'd seen them in floral arrangements at Michael's but NEVER live and growing.
So I added it to my cart and brought it home...It even has a scarecrow Welcome sign to boot! It was $24.00 for the small bucket, they had a bigger size too. I brought it to our Harvest Festival at the School and I got more inquiries on this plant....Here is the info that is on the card...
Physalis Alkekengi is often know as Chinese or Japanese Lanterns for it's autumn flowers. These are often used by flowerarrangers. The lanterns are brightly coloured, but if left alone they may become skeletonized. Your 'Liv'n Lantern' plant is ideally suited in this container and should only be planted in the garden in areas where you may wish to naturalize. As it is an aggressive spreading plant, it is best kept in this patio pot or replanted in another container of equal or larger size. Zones 2-9. Product of Canada.
I bought the plant early October and I have not tended to it like I should have, {ya know I got crazy busy with the Harvest Festival}. It needs to be watered every other day and does not like to be misted. It tends to grow mold spots on the lanterns when I mist it. I think it adds a nice shot of color on the front porch. Don't you?

Love the lantern plant! Do you happen to know what it looks like when it's not blooming?
