 We are the Square Pegs..."We are Square and don't fit in", these are my High School buddies.  We have continued to be friends through the ups and downs of life.  Between us we have 8 children ranging in ages 9 {my baby} through 25.   Recently we went here

 

for Wine and Martini's and Fish.  The conversation is always about our Children and our husbands and sometimes we reminisce about the "good Old Days"  and boy those really were the good old days.  We had a ton of fun together we still do.  We are crazy (well maybe just me) but this commercial reminds me of what it will be like to grow old together.  We will never be round and fit in any round hole.  I bet you have friends like this that have been through thick and thin.  These are The {Original} Square Pegs. 

Oh Yes...I would be the one in the Cheer Leading oufit...or the colorful swim hat.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree....

 

Like I said before,  the apple doesn't fall far, she now she has turned into an Interior Designer (one of those careers I thought of becoming years ago)   I took a class through the city and loved it, I have always had a soft spot for interior design as my blog can testify.  I can remember when I was little that decorating my Barbie's  house was what I enjoyed most about playing with Barbie.  I would use my imagination to invent all kinds of furniture for her house. I remember one time taking a plastic baggie and filling it with water to a make a water bed..(hey I was a girl growing up in the 70's).  I thought I was so ingenious.  Don't ask me next what Barbie and Ken did after I created the bed!   Ha!  Anyways I loved setting up Barbie's house and then I was done playing with her.   I just liked the setting up the house part of playing with Barbie and as you can see, so does my little one...

 

 

she loves playing with her Polly Pockets (actually both girls do) in this 3 story  Yellow farm house.  It's been well loved  as you can see from the missing shingles and porch rails and Mr. Incredible (that's my new name for my husband since he was moving the  coffee table around while I was vacumming, he even has the theme song for the movie as his ringtone)  sorry for the side track.  OK..Mr. Incredible built the Yellow farmhouse from a kit years ago for the eldest daughter and they love it soo much.   He recently started making some repairs to it,

 

as you can see lots of the railing needs to be reglued and lots of the shingles on the roof.   Wouldn't you just love to have a house like this in real life? I would.  I had one on a smaller scale while living in Hawai'i.  It had the exact same porch but it was only one story.  I use to have dinners out on the porch and you could hear the Hula Music from the Wailua river when we ate out on the porch.  Boy..am I rambling today. Ok back to the point of this post.  My youngest is such a Mini Me...not only has she been bitten by the decorating bug she has recently got addicted to the Garage Sale Hunting escapades as of late.  A few weekends back we went out on the hunt and she found this cute Gumball Machine. I had the exact same one, even the same color.

isn't it cute in Powder Pink...we got some Strawberry Whoopers from the 99cents store..which are very good, you gotta get some.  It looks very cute in her pinkalicious room.  On another comparison, the girl got a (youtube camera for her Birthday and hasn't stopped shooting since, the above photo of the yellow gumball machine is hers.  You know I would not be showing the cracked tile and FAT CAT in the photo but it was the only one I got.  Here is the camera she got....

S.O.S.  On a sidenote...the Yearbook fiasco is not OVER...they called yesterday and they have to send some pages back for me to redo that they would print out cruddy so if any of my close by scrapper buds have some brick paper or MAMBI stickers like you see in the cover I would love to buy them off you.   thanks..

well.....

remember this post well... the computer had to go in for surgery that's why I have been MIA.  Sometimes it a good thing to be disconnected for awhile, as Martha says.  But in this day and age it really is impossible to do that.  We are so connected via this tall black box of bliss and headaches.  I kept asking myself while it was gone.....I wonder if the Softball game got changed and in the middle of this "downtime" I was finishing up the yearbook for the school.  It happened like this...

I have done the yearbook for the past two years... remember this post I have had to up my prescription of Prozac this year.   Well I was minding my own business planting flowers (do I sound like the Tin Man?) in my New ceramic tub to beautify my porch when

 

I get a phone call from the PTA that the person who committed to doing the School Year book backed out and would I do it.  Ok...I say when is the deadline?  Ah it's in two weeks...OK....so I think to myself,  I have done it for two years now I should be able to whip this puppy out lickety split.  HA!!!!!  It has been one thing after the other trying to get it together.   Mind you I get called to work several times a week so I don't have lots of leisurely days to "cut and paste" like the the good ole days.  The first hurdle is the Yearbook Kit is missing some pages in it so I have to go in search of that.  Found one, don't know where the other is, it's pictures of "retakes and new students" so I have to get pictures of ALL of those students and find out who they are.  Then over spring break where I usually put the whole thing together and it's off on it's merry way I realize that some teachers (new) didn't proof their page correctly so now I have to wait for school to get back in session so I can get a class list and proof each class.  Finally I do that and go back into the class to get more student pictures.  This is very time consuming and I haven't even started with the cut and paste yet.  Ok...I'm working away typing up dedication and resizing boxes for the baby pictures for the 5th Grade Dedication page when I got to open an email and BAM there is is again a pop up that tells me to buy this spyware and my computer needs this program and to put in my credit card number etc....well I have learned to Ctrl, Alt delete and get out of there but it keeps popping up , well ...it had to go into surgery (the hardrive is corrupted)   OY!!!  But before it goes into the shop I'm able to go into safe mode and send my pages to a friends computer and print them out along with the titles of the pages.   Ok...it gets done this past Saturday but as I go through the KIT I'm missing the shipping box to ship it in, which has the address printed on it.  So I call the Yearbook rep but I get his cell phone which tells me it no longer works and I have to contact him on Monday at the office.  Ok so on Monday I pack up the year book and his phone number in my basket so I can mail it on my lunch because at this point I'm WAY past the deadline.  I also am working this morning so that is why I plan to ship in on my lunch break.   I get to school but down my basket and my coffee cup has leaked all inside my basket, the to go coffee cups are top heavy and I'm always tipping them over but I THOUGHT I had screwed the lid on tight.  So what do you think happened?   Yes....coffee all over the yearbook pages....

 

See...this are all individual class envelopes that have pictures inside so I have to take them out and dry them and unstick any pictures.  In all about 8 pictures got ruined but the pages hopefully can be lighted or I suppose have a tea (coffee)  stained quality about them.   I'm currently waiting on one baby picture from a student so I can ship it off , I am so done...as my husband says, "put a fork in me". 

It's Easter already?

wow...for some reason this holiday snuck up on me, remember this post from last year?  I am so behind this year, it's a li'l late to grow our own grass for the baskets and the girls are dissappointed.  (they keep asking Mom, when are we going to grow our grass?) I know my house is definetly decorated for spring...lots of robins eggs all over the house in various glass clothes and in the Candelier but this time with a little summer influence thrown in.   Last year I got a li'l bag of Pencil and Knobby Seastars at Chartreuse( a furniture store in Los Alamitos, Ca)  but you can find them here . 

 

But before I start jumping ahead to the next season, I still have time to decorate my humble abode for Easter.  Along with the questions my girls keeping peppering me with is....when are we going to decorate the eggs.   These eggs were so pretty dressed up in ribbons and paper...

 

 

Look at the toile covered eggs, they match perfectly with the red toile tablecloth and cups and saucer.  But if red is not your color..how about blue....

 

Or if you want to go for all out color...how about this Springtime arrangement?

 

I think this one is very doable..considering my late notice growing my grass.  (no, I'm not talking about the kind you smoke).   OK...hop to it...time is a wasting. 

Water for Elephants....

a few posts back I asked for some recommendations on good books  which you my dear blog readers did not fail to deliver.  Water for Elephants takes place in the depression of the 30's , was a good read,  I highly enjoyed it and totally recommend it.  The setting of the story takes place on a train circus and is based on real events of the circus life. So if you looking for something to read because you ran out of all your magazines or sick in bed like I have been this past week, go to your public library and check it out..and the best part it doesn't cost you a dime. I'm heading  now to the Library to go through some more titles on your suggested books that are a must read.

Sweet Dreams.....

A few months back Melissa had a post about Alexandra Stoddard and the "unmade bed" look.  So it got me to thinkin', maybe we should try that out that concept in my youngest daughters' room.  She had the most scrumptious, softest 600 thread count sheets that we got at Homegoods but she got a hole in the top sheet so I went out looking for them at two of the closest Homegood stores in the area, my search came up empty handed.  My neighbor picked up some Simply Shabby Chic sheets (say that 10 times fast) that were on clearance.  So what is a Target obessed girl to do...I head on over and lo and behold they have some pretty sheets in Full size marked to $29.99 so I pick them up for MacKenzie's bed.  It is kind of a mismatchy look which I find endearing...I am not of the match-match kind of girl, never have been.  I don't buy things in sets.  My decorating look is "come together over time"...is there such a style?  I don't know but everyone room in my house is like that. It was either bought at a thrift store/antique store or family/friend hand me down redone to reflect my color choice of the time {usually creamy white}.  So here is the Unmade bed LOOK..

 

What do you think?  What kind of bed maker are you?  Do you go for the unmade bed look?  How often do you wash your bed linens?  Do you spray it with a lovely scent?  Do you iron your sheets or is a crumpled sheet look more your style?  Inquiring minds want to know.  Here is a close up of the pillow cases..

 

The ruffle pillow cases in the back with the pink ribbon we scored at an Estate sale along with brand new down pillows.  The pillows in between are the new ones we got from Target and the ones with the pink background with the hot pink colored roses are the ones from Homegoods.  If you ever see them at a Homegoods store or TJ Maxx you will love them..so very soft.  Sweet Dreams.......................
