I don't know how to classify the style of my house....it doesn't really fit into a Victorian or Romantic style and I wouldn't say it's all Country or Shabby Chic. It's probably closest to Beach Cottage...and each room as a distinctive style...Our living room which you have seen in previous posts is very Country/Beach Cottage..My friends say "Oh, you like Shabby Chic Style", but I think our home definetly has those tendencies. Rachel Ashwell , the designer who coined the term "Shabby Chic"
has certain characteristics that she writes about in her books. There is a certain color palette of Aquas, pinks and whites. Lots of painted furniture that has been really loved....all chippy and beautiful, in my opinion. Her love of Flea Market finds is evident in all of her books. It's a very relaxed style with lots of White slipcovered furniture.that can be thrown in the wash should they get soiled. The fabrics are in soft pastels with roses and beautiful prints. I have never been to one of her stores...I would love to go to one.....just to see, just to fondle all the beautiful things I know I would fall in love with. I know her products would never fit my budget but I could glean lots of ideas from her store and adapt them to my humble abode. Out of all the rooms in our home I would say my li'l one's room would be the closet to Shabby Chic in style, you want to take a peek?
Here are a few glimpses into her room......My home is forever evolving as part of the type of decorating I do evolves over time...I do not go out and buy one set of something..I pick up a piece here at a garage sale or buy something from a friend or it's been handed down through the family.

Here is her bed....the bed my husband found at a garage sale but it didn't have the rails...I had to get them from ebay.
The left hand nightstand was mine when I was a little girl. The Right side dresser was given to us by family. I added the pink crystal knobs. The quilt is from here.
The pink pillow cases and sheets are from Home goods..its the softest pink and the sheets are sooo very soft too, almost silky! The back pillows with the ruffles have pink ribbons running through them..those were an Estate sale find.
(sorry about the bad lighting)
You can see in this photo that the Shabby Chic color palette is alive and well in her room. Those aquas, pinks and whites. The Peony plates are from the Goodwill.
the Chalkboard is a Big Lots find..I just changed out the knobs to crystal ones..The Lamp was my Mothers...I need to sew/cover the shade...I love the shape of it but I don't know how to go about covering it. The craft carousel was a Marshalls find..I got two..one for each of the girls...they love them. The chair my husband got...somewhere...I repainted it and recovered it the same fabric as the French Ribbon board..you might ribbon it from another post.
The Desk I got from my good friend...at Pure and Simple She has a beatiful blog...check it out.
Here is her little kiddy purse, she has had since she was a baby...and the little mirror set lights up..Can you see the High School Musical Lotion.....I swear I should be making money off that show...it's quite ironic...considering that my hubby is a white boy named Troy..and I'm a Half Hispanic girl named Gabriella....but neither of can carry a tune....so we wouldn't get paid very much...hee hee
yes...she thinks she is A princess..
