Thanksgiving Table

   Well, this is as far as I got with my Burlap Tablecloth...I know I know...I'm the queen of unfinished projects!!!! But, But, But....

 

You see I was using the edge of the material as the ruffle {on a count of I was too lazy to hem} so I ran out of the edgy part to finish the ruffle.  I knew I had some more burlap but it ended up being a different color of Burlap than I started the tablecloth with.  Drats!!  Since I bought the rest of that color on the roll at my Joann's and the next closest Joann's  had other colors of Burlap but NOT my color. So...I never was able to finish this one for this Thanksgiving.  I had to revert to the old stand by tablecloth that is too short for my table.  To try and camouflage "the coming up short" I hung butternut colored napkins off the side at each place setting.  I think that worked. 

 
These embroidered linen napkins were my mothers , now that lady was a collector of linens.  You know what they say, "mother like daughter".   The china is Noritake in Heather, that my Mr. Incrediblepicked up at a yard-sale for five dollars.  Can you believe that?  Yep...we scored.  It is only a set of four, which is perfect cause that's all we got at the dinner table.  The glittered pumpkins could of been used as place settings markers but since I know all four people in my family I skipped that small detail.  

I still used the burlap in the floating candle bowl that holds dried Straw Flowers,, I think the colors they behold are so fall like.  Inside are floating pumpkin candles.  Hope you all had a wonderful Turkey Day and are stuffed.  I tried Kim over at Dear Daisy Cottage  Sweet Potatoe Casserole and it was very, very good.

Rustic Burlap

When I went touring nosing around one of the model homes in my area , one of the homes had a cute burlap pillow in the master bedroom, at that moment, began my love affair with burlap  {Wish I would of taken a picture}.   The bedding was in soft white maltese and the textural burlap was very unexpected that I found interesting. That was two summers ago but still to this day I have not actually made anything with burlap. Since then I  have downloaded many images on the internet that have continued to intrigue me to actually begin using this cheap and rustic material in home decor.  The following pictures are some favorites of mine that I have had in my inspiration folder.  See if you too find yourself dreaming up ways to use burlap in a new and unexpected way.  The first photo I love because of the contrast of the white linen ruffle with the nubby texture of the burlap. 

Is it not sweet on this ottoman?  I have a itty bitty ottoman, Ok well it's a stool that has a cross-stitch in black which  I bought at a flea market that would look very cute done up like this.  What do you think?  I'm also thinking I may do a drum lamp shade up like this to.

Revamped on and old chair with some nail head trim....so cute.  Loving those pillow with the ribbons it looks like a corset.  And you know I love upholstery trim...I have several images with ideas to use with that multi purpose item. 

 
   {Cottage Living}

In a garden setting as a simple tablecloth.  Which brings me to my current project and finally doing something with burlap.  When I saw these two tablecloths, one rectangular and the other round, both on Tina's Blog I know I had to try and replicate this for my Thanksgiving Table.

I thought this would make a perfect backdrop for a Fall Harvest Colors....Pumpkin, Creme, butternut and deep reds.

Yes...Pumpkin Crunch AGAIN!!

  The Cast of Characters  {ala Pioneer Woman style}

You mix; the can of Pumpkin,  can of evaporated milk, 3 eggs, 1 cup of sugar,  {sorry forgot to put them in the picture} 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon in bowl...look how purdy it looks. {still channeling my inner PW }

pour this pumpkin yumminess in a 13x9 inch pan and top with Yellow cake Mix{ I know in the picture is shows butter but hey I'm flexible I just went with it and I got no complaints} , add a cup of chopped walnuts and span 2 sticks of melted butter over the top.

 Put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour.  Top with whip cream or Vanilla Ice Cream,  it is soooo good.   Sorry I didn't get to take a picture of it done I took it to my PTA meeting and it was gone so lickety split...I didn't even get to try it with the adapted cake mix.   Oh well...I'll be making it next week for our Thanksgiving feast.... 

If you make something new this holiday season, you must try this. I promise you won't be disappointed.  It is so easy and you will be shoutin' Yahoo!!

Do you like Pumpkin...here or there?

Yes I love Pumpkin everywhere....{a little play on Sam I am}..

I have a love affair of Pumpkin.  Here is a some samples....

 

One of my favorite places to go for breakfast is Mimi's Cafe they make a mean Pumpkin Pancake with spiced apples.  Yum! So when I saw this Pumpkin Pancake and Waffle mix I thought I could try to replicate them at home.  Don't you just love the 5o's-60's labeling on the can? 

I couldn't just stop at the Pumpkin Pancakes and Waffle mix..but nothing smells better than Pumpkin in the oven..Yes..Pumpkin Bread!

with some coffee is just plain delish.  Yes I love it here or there, yes I love it anywhere. 
 

 

 

Shabby Chic Goods..even Rachel would be proud!

So what did I bring home with me on my trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market?  I brought my handy li'l note book with all the things I needed to finish some projects around our home. 

 
At the top of my list is a 6 foot long dresser for our bedroom.  But sadly to say I never found one there that fit the bill.  I did find lots of chairs, metal and wood that I would of gladly taken home.  I found two metal chairs {50's lawn chairs with the arms} that where in the Robin's Egg Blue that I like and that is so popular right now.  They had a heart shaped embossing on them.  I didn't need them so I passed over them.  But all day I kept thinking about them.  My reasoning was if I go back at the end of the day and they are still there..it was meant to be.  Alas..they where gone when I went back to see them.  {I wish I would of taken a picture of them}.  The also where priced a bit high.  $100.00 for two.  Then at the end of the day I saw a set of 5 Windsor Chairs all beat up but really sturdy for $45.00.  I wish I would of got them.  We are short a dining chair that broke and I'm on the look out for something new.  They had a flat back on them so I would of stenciled a number or monograms on them.  I think I'll try to make the trip next month and see if they are there.  And yet again I did not take a picture..go ahead and slap me upside the head!!  Here is what I did get and Rachel  would be proud...

I loved this square table cloth and napkin set in linen.  It is the prettiest color of pink and the detail on the embroidery is so exquisite.

 
 
 It was only 20.00 dollars for all of it.  I thought that was a good deal. 

If you have following my blog for awhile you know this cutie putootie has been on the TO DO list for awhile.  Finally Mr. Incredible drilled holes in it and hung it up.  I was able to find all the crystals at the Rose Bowl.  I did look for the bell shaped shades I want to add buttons to make it complete.  You might remember this inspiration photo.

Not sure where it will come to reside but for now I think it looks good here. I think it needs a more beefy candle and Rachel will give me her thumbs up.  Speaking of Ms. Shabby Chic .  She will be around these parts on Sunday at the Crossroads Antique Mall at the Circle in Orange, Calif.  At a book signing event.  Here are some pictures of her store in Newport Beach that I took a few years ago.  Love her style...obviously.

 
I am going to try and make it but with two soccer games that day not sure I can sneak away.  She'll be there at NOON!!

Flea Marketing at the Rose Bowl....

here is most of the group that met up on Sunday for a hunt of flea market treasures.  The hostesses gave out prizes in three categories...one for the cutest decorated carts..and boy their where lots of cute carts...

here is a close up Pam Garrison's pouch she has on her cart...too shabby cutielisious...She made her outside liner out of a paisley pink oilcloth table cloth from Target and the inside was made from Simply shabby shower curtain since it already had holes in it for the ties.

Here is Amy Hanna cute ticking striped cart with s vintage label name tag.

I had big plans to make a liner for my cart....but ran out of time to do it {i have been working a lot these days} so suffice to say I did not win the "cutest cart" award.  This cute li'l trio of rosettes stole the show, look at the detail, it was on a linen liner, I love the use of cheesecloth, would of never thought to do that. 

Now look at the bag that one the prize..

Is this bag right up my alley?  yep...i was going to steal it when the owner wasn't looking.

But as you can see she had a very tight grip on it and never let it out of her sight..darn.

Because no one had a rockin' cute apron the prize went to the one who traveled the farthest which was San Diego almost the Mexico border.  Some die hard flea marketeers...I say. 

Now look at the cute Cornucopias they made.  I didn't get a great shot so I stole this from Heather.

Inside the Prize Cornucopia was those darling Nickel earrings that Amy Hanna made.  Loved that!!  Also inside where Vintage Cards.  I can't remember what else.

The industrial look is very popular these days...and here is one famous "LA Woman" who was buying a bunch of it...

Another booth had lots of Holiday decor up...

 

This booth had a wonderful surprise for the "group" , when you went to visit her you got a ticket to enter it into a drawing for a pillow of your choice.  Now look at all

the great choices she had?  Lots of burlap and linen, stamped with letters or numbers.  I had my eye on a little shabby chic one but to my disappointment my ticket didn't get pulled and went I went back with my new friend who did win my li'l shabby pillow was gone. 

Can you see it there under the black and white damask print?  Boo hoo.

This booth had lots of french linens, hemp and other great material.  I have a friend who just redid her sons room all in vintage Star Wars..I bet she would love to have one of those pillows for his bunk-bed.  They also had Hemp tunics and nightgowns made of hemp.  The dress in the above photo that Jenny Doh is wearing with her cowboy boots came from this booth.  Love that french Cowboy look she has going on. 

 Look at the detail on these bloomers.  They don't make them like they used to, that's for sure. They had small opening in the back....I'm sure you can guess what for.  I thought that interesting.  I'll share what I got on my next post.

I'm off to the......

Flea Market

 to attend this . I have been there twice and I really enjoyed the hunt and wish I had more time for going on a more regular basis..It is sooo big with lots of fun things to see.  I'm so excited...I can't stand it.... mostly because we are meeting up with two of my favorite bloggers in blog land.   She  , the one and only Heather Bullard of PastPresent Blog.  I have loved her design style and how she so efforlessly turns trash into beautiful items for the home and she is a wiz at Photography and styling, not only that she is really, really, really a genuine nice person who is so down to earth.   I met her once at La Maison Rustique {the flea market sale in the Wine country of Riverside County, Calif.}  She has a booth there and I have bought several things from her booth...remember the sweet black and white  li'l gingham apron, that was hers.   This creative blogger ,  I also admire her work but have never had the pleasure of meeting her in the real world.   She is so creative and when I grow up I want to be her....I really do.  I wish I had one ounce of her creative style.    Her wall papered closet had me at "hello cutie closet" . I have a vintage wall papered item on  the way, in a much smaller scale, one that I can handle} Remember this thrift store find.... process of being revamped it's almost done, I need to purchase more vintage wall paper and I can cross that cutie to be off my list.   You must check out her blog she has the most inspirational craft projects and I think Anthropologie should hire her to make stuff for them.  They would be very smart indeed.

Look at the cutest little Goody Bags they put together for the Flea Marketeers...I love the Circus Theme and inside the boxes to keep hunger at bay was a bag of Cracker Jacks, Animal Cookes, a small gold trophy, striped candies, Circus Stickers {which my daughters quickly confiscated along with the Cracker Jacks} and attached to the box was the cutest Jute crocheted necklace wreath made by Jenny Doh...how cute is that?  She put it on a shipping tag that was hand stamped....very cute...We also got some Vintage Images to use on our Crafty projects.  Look here...

What a treat it was to meet these ladies and loved and appreciated how much thought it went into planning this.  Merci , Merci, Merci.  More pictures to follow this week.  
 
 
 

I'm a "House Hunter" not a "Head Hunter"

I love that show on HGTV..House Hunters.  I love looking at all the choices that the "buyer to be" looks at and then at the end I like to guess which one they will pick. Then I think to myself which one would I like to pick if it was me picking out a house to buy.   Now the houses I'm going to share with you in today's post are some that are in an older part of my Neighborhood and I'd love to hunt one of them down and call them my own.  Would you like to see? Which one would you want?

The one above is so cute with it's gray wood siding and the two dormers up top.  Can you see that black metal chair out front...I have been wanting one of those...maybe it will come with the house...

 
Wow...look at all that architectural detail...pretty nice...I think.

I loved the colors of this sweet cottage the dark chocolate door with the Celadon green siding and white trim.  The one over six windows are another feature I find endearing.  Well..no luck here with the neighbors...I guess everyone is at work.  Well....let move across the street...

Wow..this is a colorful Victorian...it is a peachy salmon color with maroon accents.  Hmmm..

post Halloween sightings.....

Excuse me blog readers for the spotty postings but my computer was in the shop again!!  Lesson Learned...do not go grocery shopping and leave Husband in charge because neighborhood children like to use said computer to download you tube everything.... but she is back now and I hope to post more wonderful things that I would love to share with you all.  First of all take a look of these cute Mummified Cupcakes...

You can get the brown-eyed sugar eyeballs from Target.  If Mummies are not your "thang", how about some gangly legged red spiders, Jack O'Lanterns or One eyed Monsters......

 

Look!!!  It's Raggedy Ann!   When I was a little girl my Mom made me my very own Raggedy Ann, nope not store bought she sewed it herself.  I loved it!  I have no idea what has happened to it, out of all the things I wish I'd saved when growing up that would of been it.  My daughter was a little unhappy that some people where calling her a Clown at school {she thought it had to do with her red nose) so on Halloween she begged me not to put on the red nose.  

Here she is with all of her trick or treaters cronies.  Madison Gypsy Rose went with her friend from school I was able to get a picture of her in her costume before she headed out to "beg" for candy..

Yes...Gypsies are good at being beggars....

One of the scariest house on the block....they have a real chain saw buzzing and the kids get really scared it is a must to visit....{not for the faint of heart}

Now I think this pumpkin had too much to drink....he hurled all over the place.

Now this IS Scary....inside this cloche with the glittery skull and creepy spider is a PICTURE of my ancestors!!!!!  It is a picture from my Dad's side of the family.  It is penciled in the back of who they are.  I think it is kind of neat how I have quite a few of these precious photographs in my possession even if they creep me out.  Hope you had as much as we did.
